Before your feet touch the floor in the morning, where does your attention go?
To your email?
The news?
Instagram?
A text that came in overnight?
I have been thinking about how quickly our phones invite the rest of the world into our day.
Before we have checked in with our bodies, noticed our mood or asked ourselves what we need, we are already responding to someone else.
That is why my theme for October is OWN YOUR DIGITAL DETOX.
This is not about deciding that technology is bad. Our devices help us work, create and stay close to people we love.
It is about noticing when connection becomes constant access.
It is about recognizing when scrolling looks like rest but leaves us even more tired.
It is about asking whether all that input is helping us hear our own wisdom or drowning it out.
Next week, I will welcome a beautiful group of women to my OWN YOUR BRILLIANCE retreat. The retreat is full and I am so excited about what we will create together.
There will be space to rest, reflect, make art, connect and listen inward. We will have moments that do not need to be photographed, posted or shared. We can simply live them.
But you don’t have to leave home for four days to start taking back your attention.
Start tomorrow morning.
Before you reach for your phone, place a hand on your heart and ask:
How am I feeling?
What do I need?
What deserves my attention today?
Give yourself ten minutes before opening the door to everyone else.
Your emails will still be there. The news will still be there. Instagram will still be there.
But you will have started your day connected to yourself.
That is where a digital detox really begins.
With love,
Lisa
