We said goodbye to our best four-legged friend, Mazie. She guided us through so many years with unconditional love and kindness. I’m so grateful we found one another.
All the things I think Mazie wanted me to learn:
Let me bark - I’m a dog.
Take a compliment! Whenever someone told me I was cute, you didn’t say, “Oh no, I’m not.” Learn to receive the love and let it in just like I did.
Every time you tell me to sit, it’s a projection. Why don’t you sit? You do so much running around - just lay down in a puddle of sunshine. It’s absolutely the best medicine out there.
Create and keep clear boundaries - for example, if you don’t want me on the couch, don’t let me up sometimes and not other times. It’s very confusing.
Let me beg! It’s my way of asking for my needs to be met. It’s up to you not to feed me when I am begging.
Yoga is the best teacher out there. I was born doing downward dogs. You’re late to the game. Ha.
Dog parks aren’t for all dogs. Some of us dogs may not like other dogs, even though we like to be petted by strangers.
Always buy insurance - I can be very expensive (thank you, Trupanion)!
Save receipts - you never know. You can return the food you bought if I do not like it.
Remember how good I made you feel when you would walk through the door? I’m an excellent greeter. Please greet others the way you learned from me.
Snacks, snacks, and more snacks - they’re just simply the best thing ever.
Give yourself grace when you’re not perfect. I’m not perfect either, but we’re a great team.
Gather a good team to help you make tough decisions. After all, you’re just my owner. Trust your team; you can’t know what’s going on when I’m sick. And forgive yourself for the tough decisions you might have to make.
Lastly, I want you to be grateful for all the love.
